A 2017 cancer resolution to drive national action
1 July 2017
On Tuesday, 30 May, health leaders from across the world reaffirmed cancer control as a critical health and development priority as they adopted a new cancer resolution at the 70th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva.
We are delighted to see this resolution come to fruition one year after the call was raised, and could not have reached this milestone achievement without your support.
During the WHA, the resolution also had the support of 44 member states from across all regions and 11 NGOs, including several UICC members. Leveraging the momentum from this global effort is now critical to discussions in the coming months, including the WHO Global Conference on NCDs in Montevideo, Uruguay 18-20 Oct., the ambition for a financing meeting, and the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit this 11-15 Nov. in Mexico City, Mexico. The adoption of this resolution also comes one year before the anticipated 2018 UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs, which is a critical opportunity to check in on our progress against the 2025 target to reduce mortality by 25%.
Read on to find out how you can support the cancer resolution.
